I now officially wish I could have been at this show. I saw SOJA last night and while I'm not sure I'd listen to their music outside a concert setting (mainly because they have no live albums or Archive recordings, and their studio stuff isn't at all distinctive, kinda that typical white-reggae deal Pfunk was talking about in another thread), they put an absolutely mindblowing show. Aside from being fantastic themselves, they brought out Matisyahu to rap on a few songs (keep in mind this is a tiny tiny tiny venue), which was sick as well.
I'll definitely be going to see them again if I get the chance; getting to see them open for SR (though now it's a little late given the band's direction) would have been amazing.

Kevin in SOJA is one of my best friend's cousin. That is about as close to famous as I get.

I was at that show. SOJA started their set with one really really awesome, sweet song. I was excited. But then they played that same song about 9 more times over the course of the next hour. They got boring real fast. Almost as tedious an opener as the New Amsterdams.
Edit: It seems I quoted your post before you inexplicably deleted and re-posted without the link. Hooray!

I totally understand that sentiment - and George who was with me last night felt the same way - and it's a common impression with roots reggae. I suppose I love the genre enough to be able to notice and appreciate subtle distinctions. I didn't miss a beat last night.
It probably also helped that the guitarist, bassist, and drummer had three sets of the most beautiful dreads I'd ever seen. And that the guitarist reminded me of my older brother. They were almost as much fun to watch as to listen to.

I've meant to for a while, but I just started using Pandora and I love it. I don't know why I didn't use this site earlier

Ah! If you already like their music, then you'll definitely be in for a treat if you ever do go see them.
I think one of the biggest factors in my appreciation of them this past night was that, given that they're singing mostly about Rastafari stuff I assumed they were posers doing it just for the image... but they - the guitarist / lead vocalist especially - seemed really genuine about it onstage. Made me respect them a whole lot more.

I've looked into them before but never went too deep. I did actually think about them again at the SOJA concert, and if you recommend them will definitely give them another listen.

I saw them a couple years ago and loved the show. I haven't really heard any studio stuff, but yeah, I'd recommend them for sure.

I kinda agree... babies are a lot more annoying (and very cute, but so are dogs), but they have the potential to become cool people so I think they ultimately have an edge.
Edit: Awesome Mike. I think they're on Archive so I'll check them out again soon.

Yesterday I went Christmas shopping with my mom. And she mentioned she wanted the movie Mamma Mia for Christmas. And this was probably the only day I would've been able to go shopping, so I decided to buy it. I was able to hide it from her in my sweatshirt, and even convinced I didn't buy it. It was a pain in the ass. My parents had made a rule that they weren't going to buy eachother anything for Christmas, but when my dad came home he brought some things in my room to wrap for him, as each had now broken their rule. I took out the movie I bought, and of course he bought the same thing today. Now I have to return it. So much effort wasted.

red i take it back the best way to move a mountain is to move yourself
only then will the mountain really move...
pebble by pebble just creates a mountain of pebbles
the beauty of the mountain is how natural and pure it is, trying to recreate it is impossible and unnatural. the only true way to move a mountain is by moving yourself
i think it is human nature to feel like anything is possible, we destroy the world around us while building it up to fit our needs
taking all the pebbles that create a mountain and moving them to a separate location doesnt make it any more of a mountain than if we used the same pebbles to build up a great wall
a mountain is a raw and natural thing
the only way to move a mountain is by moving yourself away from it. i know i took a figurative thing and made it literal, but i did so with the intent of speaking figuratively through literal language
and if i failed miserably then its just the nighttime cough medicine i just took talking

i'm not sure what thread to put this in (new album/sr dreams/happy thread) so i figured it was most appropriate here.
i had a dream about the new album. i saw the tracklist and it was very pretty. here's what i remember
3. evolution 4. held up 5. (possibly knights) 6. (possibly crows) 7. mansin 8. (possibly world control) 10. (the last track) still and silent.
so i dont remember 1/2/9 and the possibly tracks aren't definite in my head. but i remember seeing those others for sure. i was surprised at held up/mansin both being on the album, and when i asked chad he said that they both came out really well so they wanted them both on.
i remember still and silent being over 5 minutes.
the cover of the album was green, but i might've gotten that from yotc.
